A striking interwar chinoiserie mantel clock, retailed by W. Cawley & Sons of London and fitted with a quality French movement by Japy Frères.

The shaped oxblood lacquered case is hand-decorated with pagoda and sampan motifs in the traditional chinoiserie manner, reflecting the enduring British fascination with East Asian design during the late 1920s and early 1930s.

The silvered Arabic dial is signed by the London retailer and framed by a brass bezel. Internally, the clock houses an 8-day French movement stamped “Made in France” and bearing the Japy Frères mark, one of the most respected continental clockmakers of the period.

The clock runs well and keeps good time.

A decorative and reliable interwar timepiece combining French engineering with London retail provenance.

Condition; Good vintage condition with age-related craquelure to lacquer, as expected. Movement running strongly at time of listing.
