A Fine 19th Century Neo-Renaissance Carved Oak Figural Caryatid Term
£345.00
An exceptionally well-carved 19th-century solid oak architectural pilaster fragment, depicting a Renaissance gentleman in high relief.
Retaining a magnificent deep patina and rich historical character, this commanding piece offers a striking sculptural presence for contemporary or period interiors.
Dating from the height of the late Victorian Neo-Renaissance and Gothic Revival movements (circa 1880), this imposing solid oak caryatid pilaster (or term) is a masterclass in nineteenth-century high-relief woodcarving.
The vertical column centers on an expertly rendered Renaissance-era gentleman or court musician. He is depicted in traditional period attire, featuring a soft bonnet cap, a tailored doublet with pronounced button closures, and split trunk hose.
In excellent antique salvaged condition. The carving remains crisp and deeply defined. Minor historical losses, abrasions, and blunt saw cuts to the terminal ends are present.
Measuring 35” by 4” approximately
