Shapland & Petter Attributed Arts & Crafts Oak Gentleman’s Wash/ Shaving Stand
£395.00
An exceptionally elegant Arts & Crafts gentleman’s wash or shaving stand, attributed to the renowned Barnstaple makers Shapland & Petter.
Executed in richly figured quarter-sawn oak, this wonderfully vertical piece features a compact upper drawer above a cupboard compartment, raised upon slender tapering legs united by an under-tier shelf with shaped gallery sides. Above sits a circular adjustable mirror mounted upon an extending support.
The piece retains excellent period character throughout. Signs of age and use are present, including evidence that the stand would once likely have had copper side rails, presumably used for towels or wash cloths. These are no longer present, though the omission does little to detract from the stand’s overall aesthetic appeal.
Approximate Measurements; Height: 52” extending to approximately 61”, Width: 14”, Depth: 11”
Condition; Good antique condition overall with age-related wear, marks and surface patination.
