Antique Cast Iron Railway “Stick No Bills” Sign England, c.1890–1930
£235.00
A superb and authentic original cast iron railway sign, boldly cast with the instruction “STICK NO BILLS”, once used to deter the posting of notices and handbills on railway property.
Dating to the late Victorian/ Edwardian period, this sign would originally have been mounted to the wall of a station building, platform, or railway-owned structure. Produced in heavy cast iron with raised lettering, it exemplifies the practical yet graphic design language of Britain’s historic rail network.
All four original corner bolts remain, though they have been sheared off flush, a common feature on reclaimed railway signage. Two later fixing holes have been added at some point in its history, likely when repurposed or re-mounted.
A wonderfully honest piece of railway history, equally at home in a period interior, industrial setting, or curated retail space.
Measuring approximately 15” by 10”
