1938 Royal Air Force No.2 Depot Pass Ball Competition Medal – Bronze RAF Sports Award – Runners Up
An original pre-Second World War Royal Air Force sporting competition medal, dated February 1938, awarded to the runners-up in a depot pass ball competition.
The medal is struck in bronze and features a finely detailed sporting scene to the obverse depicting two players in action at a goal post, a dynamic representation of inter-service competitive sport within the RAF during the late interwar period.
The reverse is neatly engraved within a laurel wreath:
“No. 2 R.A.F. Depot
Pass Ball Comp.
Feb. 1938
Runners-Up”
Such medals were awarded at RAF training depots and stations to recognise organised team sports, which formed an important part of military life, promoting fitness, discipline, and morale among personnel in the years immediately preceding the outbreak of war.
