Single Line Leather Railway Token Holder Bag With Hoop & Pouch
The token system was developed in Britain in the 19th century, to enable safe working of single-line railways… this system was proposed by Mr. Henry Woodhouse for Standedge Tunnels in 1849
A railway token system functioned by offering a physical token to a train driver, which acted as their authorisation to occupy a single-line section of track, ensuring that only one train could be on that section at a time… essentially, the token was a key that could only be removed from one signal box at the start of a section and had to be returned to the signal box at the end, preventing another train from entering the same section until the token was returned, thus avoiding collisions.
