A highly decorative late 19th-century Anglo-Indian carved hardwood occasional table, probably Hoshiarpur, Punjab.


The table has an 18-inch-wide removable octagonal top, richly decorated with concentric carved borders surrounding an intricately worked central circular panel of floral and foliate inlay.


The base is exceptionally well carved throughout, with extensive pierced and relief-carved decoration depicting exotic birds amongst palm-like foliage and botanical motifs, surrounded by dense scrolling floral ornament.


The table stands approximately 19 inches high and retains a wonderful aged patina throughout. There are historic losses to sections of the pierced carved decoration, as visible in the photographs, but these are old losses and the table remains structurally complete, with the folding mechanism and removable top functioning as intended. The losses have been left untouched and are considered part of the item’s history and character.
