A wonderfully characterful Edwardian novelty advertising piece, produced by W.M. Livens & Co. of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and dating to around 1907.

Formed as a gentleman’s top hat, this example was originally designed and retailed as a dual-purpose confectionery tin and money box, rather than being a later adaptation, a detail that elevates it far beyond standard examples.

The piece retains its distinctive ‘College’ branding alongside the charming period illustration, with a factory-formed coin slot to the underside confirming its original intended function. The sculptural silhouette gives it strong visual presence, making it equally suited to display as a decorative object.
