Early 20th Century “Victory V Gums & Lozenges” Chinoiserie Clock Tin by Fryer & Co., England
£365.00
A rare and wonderfully decorative early 20th century “Victory V Gums and Lozenges” mantel clock tin, manufactured by Fryer & Co. (Nelson) Ltd., England, dating to the 1920s–1930s. Originally produced as both a functional mantel clock and an advertising confectionery storage tin, these pieces are now highly sought after for their charm, scarcity and strong display presence.
This example is exceptionally attractive, showcasing a rich blue-green ground with Chinoiserie-inspired decoration. The artwork features beautifully rendered Oriental figures in a stylised garden landscape, accented with raised gilt detailing and ornate borders, an evocative blend of early advertising design and decorative art.
At the centre sits its traditional white enamel dial with crisp black Arabic numerals, framed by an intricately patterned surround. Flanked by the original matching side tins, the set forms an impressive and cohesive decorative ensemble.
