Early 19th Century London and North Western Railway “BEWARE OF THE TRAINS” Cast Iron Warning Sign


An evocative and highly collectable early railway warning sign from the golden age of Britain’s railway network, this original cast iron “Beware of the Trains” sign was produced for use on railway infrastructure during the rapid expansion of the Victorian rail system.


Cast in solid iron with deeply raised lettering and a rectangular form, the sign retains its original bottom mounting lug for fixed installation. Its heavy industrial construction reflects the practical safety messaging required in busy operational environments of the period.


The surface displays excellent authentic wear, with aged paint, oxidation and weathering accumulated through decades of exposure. This untouched patina gives the piece strong visual presence and unmistakable period character.


Measuring approximately 20.5 inches by 12.5 inches, the sign remains in original unrestored condition.
