Macniven & Cameron Ltd, a Scottish printing and stationery company known for its pen nibs.
This sign advertises three of the company’s popular pen nibs: the “Pickwick,” the “Owl,” and the “Waverley”.
The slogan “They come as a Boon and a Blessing to men, the Pickwick, the Owl and the Waverley Pen” is a famous piece of advertising doggerel associated with the company.
The names of the pens were inspired by popular literary figures and themes of the time, such as Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers and Sir Walter Scott’s Waverley novels.
