A charming early Automatic Strike Vesta Lighter, c.1920s–1930s
£85.00
A charming early Automatic Strike Vesta Lighter, c.1920s-1930s, in its original oxblood grained leather-covered brass case. Designed to securely hold a single match upright, the mechanism allows the user to strike the match by snapping the lid closed, engaging the integral steel striker plate. The lid is stamped “LIGHT” in gilt, with a pleasingly worn patina from years of handling and use.
Compact, tactile, and cleverly engineered, these pocket vestas were carried by smokers and outdoorsmen in the transitional period between traditional safety matches and fuel-fed lighters. This example remains mechanically functional, with good spring tension and a well-preserved leather covering showing honest age.
A fine piece of early 20th-century personal kit, both a practical tool and a collectible object of design.
Condition: Good vintage condition with light surface wear, working hinge and striker.
Dimensions: approx. 6cm tall
