1940’s British Railways Hand Signal Lamp
An antique railway hand lamp by BR British Railways, dating back to the 1940’s.
These lamps were essential tools used by railway personnel such as guards, signalmen, and footplate crew to illuminate their surroundings and for signaling purposes.
They contained an oil burner for illumination and feature multiple colored lenses (e.g., red, green, clear) that could be rotated to display different signals, indicating actions like “clear,” “red,” or “green”.
Complete with original oil burner and all glass lenses (please note the repair/ damage to the green glass lens)
